The Vancouver Transportation Foundation (VTF) is a Britsh Columbia non-profit society, founded in 1994.
One part of its mandate is to provide scholarships and bursaries for the benefit of students in pursuit of postsecondary educaton, with emphasis upon areas of
studies relative to transportation.
The Nautical Professional Education Society of Canada (NPESC) has been charged by the Vancouver Transportation Foundation to recommend students for such scholarships/bursaries. The NPESC is therefore inviting BCIT students to make application for VTF/NPESC financial awards.
Though the exact amount of funds available are to be determined, we are confident that numerous awards will be offered this year.
Applications must be received by midnight on July 31st 2026
Eligible students wishing to apply for these awards should be guided by the following:
- To be eligible for the award, the applicant shall, in 2026, be enrolled in an approved marine training course of at least 250 hours duration;
- The course requires full time attendance;
- Eligibility for the award will include demonstrated needs, commitment to a career in the marine industry and potential for future success; and,
- Previous winners of VTF scholarship/bursaries are eligible to apply but will only be considered after first time applicants have been considered.

The following items must be word-processed on separate sheets of paper (apart from Item “4” which is to be handwritten).
Please note the item number or question on the page (s)when submitted:
- List significant activities (e.g., community activities, school clubs/teams, service organizations, charitable/volunteer groups, and volunteer work) and academic honours attained while in high school and/or college in the last four (4) years.
- List a summary of your hobbies, skills, and athletic involvement.
- List any and all scholarships/bursaries you have received in the last 3 years.
- Provide a brief statement regarding your education and career goals (This item is to be given in your normal handwriting AND NOT typed).
- Provide a brief statement describing your need for financial assistance for your post-secondary education. In addition, please provide a budget detailing the following: tuition, books & supplies, transportation, room and board and other personal expenses.
- List previous, present, and intended (while in school, if any) employment/work experience.
- Attach a photocopy of your recent transcript or most recent marks. (We would prefer to see % marks as opposed to GPA or letter grades. Please ensure that your name appears on your transcript.)
- Provide proof of registration at an educational institution.
- Please submit at least two letters of recommendation to support your application. You may submit the letters of recommendation with your completed application package, or the recommender may forward them directly to the VTF Awards Selection Committee office. Letters of recommendation must be received before the deadline and may not be dated earlier than 12 months before the submission date.
